3 Ways to Use Essential Oils for Headache Relief
Hey folks! It’s Gillian here, Partner in Lyme’s summer Communications Volunteer. Today, we are going to kick off a series on using natural healing methods to treat common symptoms associated with Lyme. One of the first things that Jess shared with me when I joined the team was that when people are diagnosed with Lyme, they often begin to look into ways they can incorporate natural medicine into their treatment process. I’ve been using essential oils as a part of my day to day life since I was in middle school, so I was so excited about the opportunity to share my passion for oils and knowledge of natural medicine with others. Throughout this series, I will highlight the many ways you can use essential oils, teas, and more to supplement your body throughout your Lyme journey and beyond.
Now let’s talk about headaches. According to the Global Lyme Alliance, headaches are one of the most common symptoms reported among Lyme patients. For some people, a bad migraine can knock them out for days! At Partner in Lyme, we understand how difficult and derailing Lyme related headaches can be, so I am so excited to show you three ways you can use essential oils for headache relief.
Disclaimer: I am not a medical professional, nor do I endorse specific products. These are just natural medicine alternatives that have worked for myself and others in the past.
Number 1: Headache Relief Roller Bottle
Use this roller bottle blend whenever you feel a headache coming on. I like to apply it to my temples and on the back of my neck.
Here’s what you’ll need:
10mL roller bottle
5 drops Lavender
5 drops Peppermint
5 drops Frankincense
5 drops Copaiba
2 drops Wintergreen
2 drops Clove
2 drops Eucalyptus
Carrier oil of your choice (I like liquid coconut oil, but some other great options are grapeseed or rosehip oil.)
Mix all the oils in the roller bottle and then top off with your carrier oil. Pop a cute label on it if you wish, then roll away!
Number 2: Headache Busting Diffuser Blend
Aromatherapy is a great way to create a relaxing environment and support your body as you fight off a headache. Next time you have a headache try diffusing:
4 drops Lavender
2 drops Rosemary
3 drops Peppermint
3 drops Eucalyptus
Number 3: Headache Relief and Energy Boosting Water
One of the best ways to get essential oils into your system and working fast is by ingesting them. Whenever I have a headache, I like to fill a 16oz glass with water and put in a drop of peppermint and two drops of lemon. The peppermint oil will provide headache relief, while the lemon oil will help clean out the junk in your body. It’s important to note that peppermint will also put an extra pep in your step. It’s great if you’re trying to kick a caffeine habit, but not so great if you ingest it too close to bedtime.
Note: When ingesting oils, it is very important that you read the labels and make sure you are using 100% therapeutic grade essential oils. Consuming synthetic oils is very bad for the body!
I hope that you find these headache remedies to helpful. If you try any of them, please let us know in the comments or send us a message on social media. Also, let us know what other Lyme symptoms you’d like to see natural remedies for. We’d love to hear from you!
